₹5 Cr fisheries training center has been approved for Gagret by central government
BharatNet-III will connect 3,615 gram panchayats in Kangra-Chamba with high-speed broadband—giving new impetus to the digital revolution
BJP MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj raised important issues related to Himachal Pradesh in the Lok Sabha during Budget Session II and sought concrete information from the central government. On March 17, 2026, he questioned the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying regarding plans to open training centers for the development of fisheries in Himachal Pradesh.
In response, the Union Minister informed that approval has been granted to establish a state-of-the-art Fisheries Training Center in Gagret, Una district, for which funding of ₹5 crore has been approved. This center will play a vital role in connecting the fisheries sector in the state with modern technology, training, and innovation.
Dr. Bhardwaj stated that the central government has now extended the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) facility to fishermen and fish farmers, meeting their working capital needs. He explained that these schemes will significantly contribute to fish production, quality improvement, modernization, and livelihood strengthening, as well as to the welfare of fishermen.
Additionally, Member of Parliament Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj asked the Communications Minister on March 18, 2026, regarding the expansion of broadband connectivity in Kangra and Chamba districts under BharatNet Project-III. In response, the Union Minister stated that BharatNet Project-III has been approved to connect a total of 3,615 gram panchayats, including Kangra and Chamba, with high-speed broadband connections.
He stated that BSNL has been designated to implement the project, while ITI Limited has been appointed as the implementing agency. This project will provide fast and stable internet services ranging from 2 Mbps to 20 Mbps in rural areas.
Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj said that this initiative of the Central Government will prove to be a milestone in strengthening digital connectivity in the rural areas of Himachal Pradesh, creating new opportunities for education, health and employment and taking development to every village.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is continuously committed to the overall development of Himachal Pradesh and is working to empower the state in every field.
