Suresh Kashyap raised issue of upgradation & safety of Solan-Sangrah-Shilai road in Lok Sabha

BJP MP Suresh Kashyap raised a serious issue in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377 regarding the condition of the vital Solan-Sangrah-Shilai road, which connects the Sirmaur, Solan, and Shimla districts of Himachal Pradesh. He stressed the need to widen, strengthen, and implement modern safety measures on this road.

MP Suresh Kashyap said that this road connects to National Highway 105 and starts from Solan and goes to Shillai. The road ends at Minas and ends at the PWD road and is approximately 128.325 kilometers long. A large portion of this road passes through the Rajgarh, Sangrah, and Shillai divisions, making it a vital connectivity route for the region.

He explained that the entire route is currently a single-lane road, designed for two-way traffic. Narrow roads, sharp turns, steep slopes, and inadequate safety measures are the frequent cause of road accidents on this route.

The MP specifically mentioned the bus accident that occurred in the Haripurdhar area on January 9, 2026, in which a bus plunged into a 400-meter-deep ravine, killing 12 people and seriously injuring several others. He said this incident highlights the dangerous condition of this route and the need for immediate improvement.

Suresh Kashyap stated that approximately 22 meters of land has already been acquired for this route, leaving ample potential for widening and upgrading. This route connects the Pachhad, Chaupal, and Shillai assembly constituencies and is crucial for the transportation of agricultural produce, tourism, daily commutes, and emergency services.

He requested the Central Government that in view of the geographical, strategic and socio-economic importance of the area, the work of widening, strengthening and upgrading this route as per modern safety standards should be started soon on priority basis.

MP Suresh Kashyap said that the improvement of this route will not only reduce road accidents but will also provide safe and easy transportation facilities to the people of the area, which will give new impetus to the development of the area.
