Himachal’s Hospitality Sector Warns of LPG Shortage Impact
In the hill state of Himachal Pradesh, where tourism fuels livelihoods and hospitality is the backbone of the economy, hoteliers and restaurateurs are sounding the alarm. The Federation of Himachal Hotels and Restaurant Association (FHHRA) has urged the Union Government to ensure uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG cylinders, warning that shortages could cripple kitchens and dampen the tourist experience.
In a letter to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, FHHRA president Gajender Thakur expressed concern over irregular supplies and the looming impact of global disruptions. “Hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and catering services depend on LPG for daily operations. Without it, the entire hospitality chain suffers,” he noted.
For Himachal, the stakes are high. During peak tourist seasons, thousands of visitors flock to the state, and demand for food services surges. A shortage of LPG cylinders could mean delayed meals, struggling businesses, and frustrated tourists. “Tourism is the lifeline of Himachal’s economy. Any disruption in essential services like food preparation will ripple across the sector,” Thakur warned.
The association stressed that the issue is not just about convenience—it’s about livelihoods. From small dhabas serving local delicacies to large hotels catering to international guests, every establishment relies on steady LPG supply. A break in the chain could hurt both residents and visitors, undermining the state’s reputation as a welcoming destination.
The appeal concludes with a call for urgent government intervention, reminding policymakers that behind every cylinder are countless families, workers, and entrepreneurs whose survival depends on keeping Himachal’s kitchens running.
