Two-day seminar on explosives and forensic analysis begins in Junga
A two-day seminar on explosives and ammunition, safety, handling, and forensic analysis began on Wednesday at the Directorate of Forensic Services, Junga. The seminar was virtually inaugurated by K.K. Pant, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Government of Himachal Pradesh.
In his address, he highlighted the importance of safe and proper handling of explosives and ammunition-related cases by forensic experts. Referring to recent explosives-related cases in the state, including the incident in Nalagarh on January 1, 2026, he said that it is crucial for forensic experts to have in-depth knowledge of the collection and preservation of physical evidence from crime scenes.
Two renowned experts in the field of explosives and ammunition, Dr. Omkar S. Mondhe, former General Manager, Indian Ordnance Factory, Badmal (Odisha) and Debabrata Malik, former General Manager, Indian Ordnance Factories, provided special information related to explosive materials. Dr. Mondhe will lecture on topics like introduction to explosives and propellants, production methods, thermochemistry of explosives, various preparatory methods and methods of forensic analysis. While in the seminar, Dr. Malik will provide information on topics like properties and detonation of explosives, commercial explosives, safety, UNHD, quantity distance, compatibility groups, insensitive munitions and internal ballistics.
On this occasion, Director Forensic Services, Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan, honored the guest speakers. In her address, she stated that training related to the safety and handling of explosives and ammunition is crucial for forensic experts. She added that such seminars are an integral part of the forensic training program, and the Directorate periodically organizes seminars, workshops, and training programs to update the knowledge of forensic experts, police investigating officers, prosecution officers, medical officers, and Border Security Force personnel.
Forensic experts from State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga, Regional Forensic Science Laboratories, Dharamshala and Mandi and District Forensic Units, Baddi, Bilaspur and Nurpur are participating in this seminar.
