Congress will organize protests on January 5th for weakening MNREGA

State Congress President Vinay Kumar has stated that the Congress will organize protests in districts and blocks across the state starting January 5th to protest the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from MNREGA and the weakening of its original purpose. He said the Congress will raise awareness against this anti-people decision down to the booth level.
After staging a symbolic hunger strike today in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Shimla’s historic Ridge Maidan, along with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, other cabinet colleagues, and party leaders, Vinay Kumar stated that the Congress party will vehemently oppose the renaming of MNREGA and the weakening of its original objectives. He stated that the Congress party is launching a nationwide campaign to force the central BJP government to restore it to its original form. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of a deliberate political move, removed Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and got it approved by the President with such haste, without taking any of his allies into confidence, and without any cabinet discussions, which is highly condemnable. This is the first time in history that an amendment has been passed after limited discussion and then approved by the President overnight. He said that the Congress and other parties wanted a detailed discussion on this bill, but this was not done. He said that the way BJP is tearing the Constitution to pieces, public opinion is being insulted, rights of the poor are being snatched away, against this India Alliance will come forward in unity and will make people aware to end the dictatorship of BJP.
