Sale of annual temperate fruit plants begins at Nauni University and research centers

So far, 526 farmers have purchased 19,846 saplings

The annual sale of fruit plants for gardeners began on Monday on a first-come, first-served basis at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, and the university’s Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Research Stations. Farmers and gardeners from Himachal Pradesh and surrounding states gathered at the university and regional centers for the annual sale of fruit planting material.

During this sale, farmers sell apples , pears , apricots , peaches , cherries , kiwifruit , walnuts , pomegranates , plums , Japanese fruits etc.  Various varieties of etc. were purchased. Farmers from different parts of Himachal and adjoining states visited the university and research centres to purchase fruit saplings of different varieties. On the first day of the sale, 362 farmers purchased 15,250 saplings of different fruit varieties from three nurseries – Nursery of the Department of Fruit Science , Model Farm , Seed Science at the main campus of the university in Nauni, Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Kandaghat , Rohru and Research Centres at Mashobra and Sharbo (Kinnaur).

Additionally , the University’s Regional Horticulture Research and Training Station in Bajaura, Kullu district, began selling plants on December 8th . So far, 164 farmers have purchased 4,596 plants of various fruits and varieties from this station. Thus, the University has sold a total of 19,846 plants to 526 farmers at this sale.

This year , farmers have shown interest in diversifying fruit crops and this was also visible during the sale , where different varieties of apples as well as There was an increase in demand for Japanese fruits , kiwi and other stone fruits.

This year , the total number of plants available for sale at the university and regional stations is 1.8 The sale is being conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and will continue in the coming days .
