Inaugural Session of Annual Sports Competitions on National Sports Day Concludes
On the occasion of National Sports Day, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, successfully held the inaugural session of its Annual Sports Competitions this evening at the Sports Complex. The event was dedicated to the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand (1905–1979) and focused on promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and fitness.
The programme began at 5:00 PM at the Institute’s Sports Complex. The inaugural session was presided over by the Institute’s Secretary, Mr. Mehar Chand Negi. Fellows, Associates, officers, and staff of the Institute participated enthusiastically. Following the formal commencement, the competitions were declared open. Friendly matches were then conducted in badminton and table tennis, where participants displayed exemplary discipline, coordination, and sportsman spirit.
The competitions will continue in phases after the inaugural session. The detailed schedule and results will be announced on the Institute’s internal information system/notice boards.
At the conclusion of the programme, Mr. Kesar Singh, Sports Secretary of the Institute, expressed gratitude to all participants, officials, and supporting departments/committees, and reaffirmed the IIAS community’s commitment to healthy living and integrating regular sports activities into daily routine.
