Himachal Taxes and Excise Department cracks down on illicit liquor trade

Registers  247 cases and over 10,500 liters of illicit liquor seized in July

The Taxes and Excise Department has intensified its efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade across Himachal Pradesh. Commissioner Dr. Yunus, today said that special enforcement drives were being carried out by departmental teams across the state, in addition to district-level task forces constituted for this purpose.

He said that significant quantities of illicit liquor were seized during inspections in various regions, including district Shimla, Baddi (B.B.N.) and Kullu. In July alone, 542.930 bulk liters of illicit liquor were seized in the Southern Region (Shimla), 745.350 bulk liters in the Central Region (Mandi) and 221.850 bulk liters in the Northern Region (Palampur) along with 46 liters of lahan.

Dr. Yunus further said that a total of 247 cases related to illegal liquor have been registered so far in the current financial year. During these operations, 10,523.668 bulk liters of illicit liquor and 21,630 liters of lahan were seized and destroyed. He emphasized that the department was maintaining a strict vigil on such unlawful activities and is taking firm action as per the law. He assured that such measures would continue to be enforced against those involved in the illegal liquor trade, which causes significant loss to government revenue.
