IIT Mandi Welcomes Largest Undergraduate Batch to Date

IIT Mandi formally welcomed its new undergraduate students
for the 2025-26 batch with a grand Orientation Programme held on its campus. This year
marks a milestone in the growth of the Institute as it has recorded its highest-ever
undergraduate intake figures since its inception.
In a significant trend, 592 students have joined the undergraduate programs,
compared to 514 in 2024, reflecting the Institute’s rising academic standing and
commitment to an inclusive student-centric model of higher education. The increase in
student intake reflects the expanding academic reach of IIT Mandi and greater confidence
among potential students about the quality of education being offered. Noteworthy, there
are 394 male students and 121 female students in the newly admitted batch, reflecting a
continued rise in gender diversity. The intake 121 female students in 2025 from 96 female
students in 2024 is a reflection of the ongoing efforts of IIT Mandi towards rising gender
equality and providing more access to education in the field of STEM among women. 
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director, IIT Mandi, who
addressed the newly admitted. He said, “Today is a momentous day in your academic
journey. As we welcome the largest batch for our undergraduate programme, we are proud of
the academic diversity of IIT Mandi. The increase in enrollment, particularly in the number of
women, speaks the volume of the Institute’s commitment to inclusive education and academic
excellence. We take pride in witnessing our efforts in outreach, mentorship, and academic
innovation bearing rich dividends.”
Prof Behera further said, “The class of 2025–26 undergraduates too is a diverse mix of
courses, with enrollments in 13 different courses of study, including the recently introduced
Integrated MBA (IMBA) and popular branches such as Computer Science and Engineering,
Data Science and AI, and Microelectronics & VLSI, etc.”
Welcome address was followed by an introductory session, in which Prof Behera,
introduced the Deans, Chairperson of the Schools. This introduction was to ensure that the
students and parents are well aware about the Institutional Hierarchy and leadership to be
approached as and when required.

The Orientation Programme featured detailed presentations by Dr. Venkatesh H
Chembrolu, Dean Academics; Dr. Tushar Jain, Dean Students; and Dr. Ramna Thakur, Chief
Warden. They provided important information about the academic structure, student
welfare schemes, hostel life, institute rules, and the co-curricular activities offered at IIT
Mandi.
The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where students and parents interacted directly
with the faculty and administration to clarify their queries and gain deeper insights into the
academic and residential ecosystem of the Institute.
In addition to this, IIT Mandi is conducting a 10-day induction program for students, which
began on August 1st and will run through August 10th. During this period, students will
have the opportunity to engage with various intellectuals with talks on technology and
motivation, followed by Super Sports Sunday activities, sessions on Mental health, Well-
being and Nutrition, Gender sensitization. The program also includes physical activities,
beginning each day with a yoga session. Over the course of these 10 days, students will
participate in significant interactions, cultural events, and a variety of other activities. The
induction program will conclude with a tree plantation drive and nature walk in the serene
IIT campus.
