From a Laborer’s Son to a PhD Scholar: How Govt Support Turned Sahil’s Dream into Reality
Life wasn’t easy for Sahil. Growing up in a small village in Una, he watched his father, Surinder Singh, toil as a daily wage laborer to put food on the table. But Sahil had a dream—one that seemed impossible for a boy from his background. He wanted to study science, earn a PhD, and make his family proud.
The road was tough. Money was scarce, and opportunities were limited. When Sahil cleared his MSc and set his sights on a PhD in Chemistry, the financial burden seemed insurmountable. But just when things looked bleak, hope arrived in the form of the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
A Helping Hand When It Mattered Most
The Board stepped in, providing Sahil with ₹21,000 for his MSc and ₹1.20 lakh for his PhD. Today, he is pursuing his doctoral studies at Himachal Pradesh Central University, Dharamshala, proving that with the right support, even the most distant dreams can come true.
“Without the government’s help, my dream would have stayed just a dream,” Sahil says, his voice filled with emotion. “Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the Welfare Board didn’t just give me money—they gave me confidence. They showed me that my background doesn’t define my future.”
A Government That Cares
This isn’t just Sahil’s story—it’s a reflection of how policies can change lives. Nardev Singh Kanwar, Chairman of the Welfare Board, explains, “Our goal isn’t just to give financial aid but to empower people. When a laborer’s son becomes a researcher, it inspires an entire community.”
Under Chief Minister Sukhu’s leadership, the state has rolled out multiple welfare schemes—from education grants to marriage assistance, medical aid, and even pensions for workers. For families like Sahil’s, these aren’t just schemes; they’re lifelines.
A Future Full of Possibilities
Sahil’s journey is a reminder that talent exists everywhere, but opportunity doesn’t. Thanks to timely support, a boy who once worried about affording books is now on his way to becoming Dr. Sahil.
“I want to tell every child who dreams big—don’t give up,” he says. “If the government could help me, they can help you too. Your struggles today can become your strength tomorrow.”
As Sahil continues his research, his story stands as proof that when a government truly works for its people, no dream is too big—and no hurdle too high.
