A quiet revolution is taking root in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. Under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s leadership, the state’s focus is firmly on its children, reimagining education as the key to holistic development. This vision is moving from blueprint to reality with a heartfelt initiative: the widespread establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools.
More than just new buildings, these schools are envisioned as nurturing centers designed to bridge the gap for children in rural areas. They promise not only quality education but a supportive environment for their all-around growth.
A Statewide Promise Takes Shape
The commitment is substantial and inclusive. Currently, 42 locations across every assembly constituency in the state have been selected to host these modern schools, with an initial investment of Rs. 94.46 crore. From Jaisinghpur in Kangra to Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti, and from Sirmour’s Sataun to Solan’s Kandaghat, the aim is to ensure no child is left behind.
In Hamirpur district, for instance, construction is already buzzing. In Karha and Amlehar villages, the work is progressing rapidly, with the Amlehar school’s primary wing set to welcome students as soon as the next academic session begins.
More Than Books: Building Confidence and Talent
The core idea is to provide what many young talents in remote areas lack: opportunity. These schools are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including improved sports infrastructure. The goal is to spot and nurture sporting prowess alongside academic learning, preparing children for the competitive world with both knowledge and confidence.
For parents, this initiative brings immense hope and satisfaction. It means their children will have access to resources often reserved for urban centers—a platform where academic learning is balanced with the development of their unique talents.
From Vision to Classroom
The transformation is tangible. In Bilaspur, the existing Rajiv Senior Secondary School in Hatwar is being expanded and converted into a day-boarding school, with 25 bighas of land allocated for its growth. Similar stories of construction and renewal are unfolding in constituencies across Himachal.
Chief Minister Sukhu’s vision is clear: to provide a modern education that also instills strong values, environmental consciousness, and physical well-being. It’s an education meant to shape capable and conscientious citizens.
