Himachal : From ‘Dev Bhoomi’ to ‘Khel Bhoomi’ – A New Era of Sporting Dreams
Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh has long been revered as ‘Dev Bhoomi’—a land of gods, spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes. But today, the state is carving out another inspiring identity—‘Khel Bhoomi’—a rising hub of sporting excellence where young athletes are turning their dreams into reality.
A Vision for Champions
Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Himachal Pradesh is undergoing a quiet yet powerful revolution in sports. The government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing talent, building world-class infrastructure, and creating an inclusive sports ecosystem is transforming the state into a breeding ground for future champions.
Building Dreams, Brick by Brick
At the heart of this transformation is the upcoming Kharedi Sports Complex in Nadaun, Hamirpur—a ₹65 crore state-of-the-art facility that promises to be a game-changer. Imagine budding swimmers gliding through an eight-lane pool, young shooters aiming for precision, wrestlers and boxers training in modern arenas, and kabaddi players perfecting their moves—all under one roof.
But that’s not all. The state is also:
- Setting up a 100-bed sports hostel in Bilaspur to provide athletes with a nurturing home away from home.
- Upgrading the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Shimla with cutting-edge facilities.
- Building indoor stadiums in Solan and new sports complexes in Reckong Peo, Haroli, and Jaisinghpur.
- Introducing synthetic tracks in Hamirpur and Sujanpur to help runners train like pros.
Fueling Champions – Beyond Just Training
The government understands that champions aren’t built on practice alone—they need nutrition, support, and encouragement. That’s why:
- Diet allowances for young athletes have been increased—now, ₹250-500 per day ensures they never train on an empty stomach.
- Travel expenses for out-of-state competitions are fully covered—whether by train or flight.
- Student-athletes no longer fear losing attendance—they’re marked ‘present on special leave’ during competitions, ensuring sports don’t come at the cost of education.
Celebrating Excellence – Because Heroes Deserve More
Himachali athletes have made the state proud on national and international stages. To honor their hard work, the government has increased cash rewards, with ₹14.77 crore already awarded to 21 international medalists. An additional ₹44 lakh has cheered on other high-performers, proving that excellence doesn’t go unnoticed.
A Future Where Every Child Can Dream
Himachal’s sports revolution isn’t just about medals—it’s about empowering every child, from remote villages to bustling towns, to believe in their potential. Through regular competitions, structured training, and world-class facilities, the state is ensuring that no talent goes unnoticed.
Today, as young Himachali athletes rise in national rankings, the message is clear: This is not just ‘Dev Bhoomi’ anymore—it’s ‘Khel Bhoomi’, where champions are born.
With passion, infrastructure, and government backing, Himachal Pradesh isn’t just playing the game—it’s changing it.
