Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds in Himachal Pradesh

A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued in Himachal Pradesh until July 8, accompanied by warnings of lightning and strong winds in some areas. Director of the Meteorological Department, stated that while monsoon rainfall for July is currently 5 percent below average, increased monsoon activity in the coming days is expected to bring more widespread rain. This year’s monsoon in Himachal Pradesh is anticipated to be normal despite a 49 percent rainfall deficit in June compared to last year.

Monsoon conditions have caused significant disruptions in the state, with 63 roads initially blocked in various regions. However, by the evening, this number had been reduced to 17, with closures affecting 4 roads in Chamba district, 12 in Mandi, one in Kangra, and one national highway in Lahaul-Spiti.

Power supply issues were reported due to 319 disrupted transformers. The State Electricity Board has restored 126 transformers, ensuring power supply to affected areas. Currently, 193 transformers remain shut down, including 129 in Chamba and 64 in Mandi district. Despite these challenges, there has been no disruption in the supply of drinking water across the state.
