World Leprosy Eradication Day celebrated in Junga

 Leprosy can be cured and its treatment is available free of cost in government hospitals. This was stated by Dr. Manoj Verma, Medical Officer of Civil Hospital Junga, while addressing the people present on the occasion of World Leprosy Prevention Day at Industrial Training Institute Junga on Thursday. The function was presided over by Madan Mohan, Pradhan of Bhadrench Panchayat. While Dr. Paul, Assistant Director, State Forensic Laboratory, Arun Rawat, Director, Glide Inn were present as special guests.
Dr. Manoj Verma said that leprosy is a disease caused by Mycobacterium leper bacteria. It has no connection with sin, God’s punishment or religion. Leprosy is a chronic infection that causes symptoms like muscle weakness, skin lesions, numbness in hands and feet. He said that the bacteria causing leprosy grow very slowly, so it may take several years for the symptoms of infection to appear.
He said that more than one lakh patients in the world suffer from this disease every year, out of which 58 percent patients are found in India. He said that 94 new cases of leprosy have been reported in the state. On this occasion, the people present were administered an oath.
