Workers Welfare Board disburses Rs. 5.30 crore to workers under 14 welfare schemes: Nardev Singh Kanwar
Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (HPBOWWB) Nardev Singh Kanwar, today while addressing a press conference informed that the Board has provided benefits amounting to Rs. 5,30,81,946 to eligible labourers under 14 different welfare schemes during the financial year 2025-26 so far.
He said that a total of 4,73,126 labourers are presently registered with the Board. Out of these, 5,247 labourers have been registered during the ongoing financial year 2025-26. He further said that e-KYC verification of 70,863 labourers has been completed through the HIM-PARIVAAR portal, including 12,559 verifications done during this year itself.
Nardev Singh Kanwar said that although the Board has been operational since 2009, only 80,894 labourers were registered up to the year 2021-22. However, in recent years, significant progress has been made in expanding registration and outreach of the Board’s schemes.
Highlighting the commitment to transparency and accountability, the Chairman revealed that during inspections conducted last month, 38 application forms submitted by beneficiaries for claims were physically verified on the ground and all were found to be false. Out of these, 26 individuals had submitted fake registration forms, nine persons had applied for benefits fraudulently, while three registered labourers had availed benefits using forged documents.
He said that during field inspections by the District Labour Welfare Officer, 12 additional cases were detected where individuals fraudulently availed benefits by submitting false documents. In these cases, complaints and FIRs have been lodged at Police Stations Barsar, Hamirpur, Sujanpur and Bhoranj to initiate strict legal action against the culprits.
Nardev Singh Kanwar said that the Board will continue ground inspections rigorously in the coming times and strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty of misusing the schemes meant for the benefit of genuine labourers. Legal proceedings, including registration of FIRs, would be ensured against such offenders.
He appealed to all labourers to get their e-KYC completed timely and avail rightful benefits under the schemes being run by the Board
