Widespread rain and snow in Himachal bring cheers to tourists, farmers, hoteliers & localities

Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing a major spell of rain and snowfall for the past two days. The high reaches of the state are covered in a thick blanket of snow, while the lower hills are receiving moderate rainfall.

The snowfall has caused some disruption to traffic, with the Manali-Keylong National Highway being closed and several other roads affected. However, the cold weather and snowfall are bringing joy to farmers and apple growers, as they will help to improve crop yields.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the snowfall will continue for the next few days, with the possibility of heavy snowfall in some areas. Tourists are advised to check the weather conditions before traveling to Himachal Pradesh.

Here are some of the highlights of the snowfall in Himachal Pradesh:

  • Manali received 15 cm of snowfall, Narkanda 20 cm, Kufri 3, Keylong 13 cm, Kukumseri 18 cm, Kalpa 5 cm, and Bharmour 13 cm.
  •  Chirgaon in Rohru got the heaviest- 75cm, Kothi  50 cm, snowfall, Khadrala-16 cm Sangla-12.2 cm and Koksar in Lahaul Spiti 16.2 cm, Sumdho 4.8 cm  and  Shilaroo in Shimla-15 cm  
  • Narkanda, Dalhousie, and Kufri have also been receiving snowfall since last night.
  • The Rohtang Pass, Lady of Keylong, Seven Sisters Hills, and Kunzum Pass have all received one to two feet of snow.
  • Jalori Jot of Kullu, Dhauladhar range and Bara Bhangal of Kangra, Shikari Devi and Seraj of Mandi, Kinner Kailash, Chitkul and Sangla, Recongpeo of Kinnaur, Manimesh Pangi, Bharmour of Chamba, Rohru, Kharpathar, Hatu, Khadrala, Chanshal pass including Dodrakawar of Shimla received moderate snowfall.
  • All districts in the state received widespread rain and thunderstorms.
  • The snowfall has caused some disruption to traffic, with 241 roads being closed, including six National Highways.
  • Power supply has also been disrupted in some areas, with 677 distribution transmission regions being affected.
  • However, the snowfall is bringing joy to farmers and apple growers, as it will help to improve crop yields.
  • Rohru in Shimla had 40 mm rain,Kangra-23.6, mm, Bhuntar 33, Palampur 24, Shimla 16 mm, Jubberhati airport 12 mm.

The IMD has predicted that the snowfall will continue for the next few days, with the possibility of heavy snowfall in some areas. Tourists are advised to check the weather conditions before traveling to Himachal Pradesh.
