Weather dances in Himachal this season
Nestled amidst the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh experiences a meteorological contrast, with rain gracing the hills and a heatwave tightening its hold on the foothills. This juxtaposition paints the state’s landscape with varying hues of weather.
Recent light rain has gently touched corners of Himachal Pradesh, offering a refreshing break. Tourist destinations like Narkanda, Mandi, and Kalpa in Kinnaur have received these blessings, enhancing the scenic beauty. However, the heatwave asserts itself in the foothills, particularly in places like Una, Hamirpur, and Kangra districts.
Temperature variations across the state tell a diverse story. While Keylong shivers at a chilly 0.3 degrees, Kalpa registers a modest 3.5 degrees. Manali, a popular tourist hub, experiences a comfortable five degrees, with temperature fluctuations ranging from 8.2 to 18.5 degrees in different areas, creating a thermal mosaic.
On the roads, a different narrative unfolds. Over 107 roads remain snowbound, remnants of recent heavy snowfall. Districts like Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, and Kinnaur are covered in blankets of snow, with avalanches leaving their mark.
Looking ahead, the Met Office forecasts more precipitation. Rain is expected at numerous places on April 19, with a sprinkle on April 20. April 18 and 22 might witness light to moderate rain in select spots as a Western Disturbance looms.
Despite the beauty of nature’s fluctuations, caution is essential. The IMD has issued Orange alerts across ten districts, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds. These alerts extend to April 18 and 19, followed by Yellow alerts on April 20 and 22, urging precautionary measures.
Farmers, stewards of the land, are advised to take protective measures. Hail nets and caps in orchards safeguard precious fruits, while horticultural crops benefit from mechanical support and vegetables find strength in sturdy stakes.
As Himachal Pradesh braces for the upcoming meteorological spectacle, the administration emphasizes caution, issuing guidelines to navigate the turbulent weather ahead. Amidst the dance of weather, Himachal Pradesh stands resilient, embracing the capricious whims of nature with unwavering determination.
