Vinay Kumar Calls for Special Support in Union Budget for Himachal

State Congress President Vinay Kumar has voiced hope that the upcoming Union Budget will not overlook the needs of India’s hill states, especially Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that Himachal has long stood as a model of development among hill regions, and restoring its special category status would be a step toward recognizing its unique challenges.

Kumar highlighted the severe natural disasters that have struck the state over the past two years, claiming hundreds of lives and causing massive damage to both private and government property. Despite limited resources and minimal central assistance, the state government has worked tirelessly to support affected families.

He stressed that Himachal deserves special financial aid to offset revenue losses under GST and to ease the economic strain imposed by the 15th Finance Commission. Kumar urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to announce targeted support in the Budget—particularly for industrial growth, infrastructure, agriculture, and horticulture.

For Himachal, he said, this is not just about numbers on paper. It’s about rebuilding lives, sustaining livelihoods, and ensuring that the spirit of resilience in the hills continues to shine.
