Vikramaditya assures better roads during the Apple season

Public Works Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, chaired a review meeting of officers of the PWD and other departments here today to discuss the maintenance of roads for the upcoming apple season so that the orchardists may not face any hardships while transporting their produce. He said that the department will ensure smooth transportation and will also make earnest efforts to address various concerns pertaining to roads and transportation.

He said that as of now, 14 roads under Shimla Circle require special attention to facilitate seamless operations with an expenditure of about Rs. 3.50 crore immediately. He said that if additional funds would be required for the purpose the issue will be taken up with the Chief Minister as well. Directions were issued to work in unison by the officers of all circles and complete all the patchwork, wherever necessary within the stipulated time.   

During the meeting, urgent requirements for the entire apple season were also addressed, including the procurement of JCB machines at the division level. The roads in Kotkhai, Chopal, Kotgarh, Kumarsain and other apple belts were highlighted as needing immediate attention for repairs. It was informed in the meeting that funds amounting to Rs. 3.48 crore were released by the APMC for doubling the road leading to Parala Market Yard and 80% of the work has already been completed.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of widening of roads to create sufficient parking space. The checkpoint at Bhatakuffar, near the marketing yard, was also discussed, and officials assured suitable assistance to address the concerns of the horticulturalists. The Minister directed for erecting signage in accident-prone areas and black spots.  

Deliberations were also held on the existing status of the Chaila road widening project. Apart from this, an establishment of a control room in Theog was also proposed to ensure the smooth functioning of vehicles during the apple season besides setting up sub-control rooms and checkpoints at several locations. The responsibility for maintaining Panchayat and village-level link roads will be refurbished in collaboration with the Rural Development department through Block Development Officers.  

The Executive Engineer, Chopal was directed to lay special focus on the rural roads under his jurisdiction during the apple season and deploy adequate men and machinery.

The Finance Department affirmed its commitment to providing expedited support to ensure the effective functioning of the PWD’s initiatives. The Superintendent of Police also raised important issues, discussing the need for collaborative efforts to enhance safety and operational efficiency. The Minister commended all officials for their efforts in maintaining roads in good condition, highlighting the state’s satisfaction with their work.

The PWD Minister expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their involvement and looks forward to a successful Apple season with well-managed road infrastructure.
