University should correct the error in the paper of Political Science subject : Devendra Sharma

About 50 professors of political science of government colleges of Himachal Pradesh have sent a memorandum to the Controller of Examinations, Himachal Pradesh University on Tuesday regarding non-fulfillment of the prescribed standards in the question papers of annual examinations. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Treasurer of Himachal Pradesh Government College Teachers Association, Dr. Devendra Sharma said that everyone has expressed concern over the errors continuously being exposed in the three question papers of political science.
He told that in the Political Science exam held on April 2, 80 percent of the question paper was not as per the guidelines issued by the curriculum committee, students across the state had sent memorandums to the Controller of Examinations. Apart from this, on March 30, a complaint was also received in the question paper of Political Theory (paper code number 101) that the same question papers which were asked in the colleges under Sardar Patel University, Mandi last year, have been asked to the students of colleges under HPU this year. Apart from this, the guidelines issued by the universities have not been followed in other question papers as well. The professors have strongly condemned this kind of irresponsible attitude in the memorandum and have demanded from the university administration to set up an inquiry committee to solve the problems in the said question papers, in which senior professors of the colleges should also be invited.
Dr. Devendra said that bringing quality in higher education is a big challenge in the current context. Improving higher education is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, whether teachers, students or university administration. Since this year the government wants to implement the National Education Policy in the state, the lack of desired infrastructure is a big question for it. In the memorandum, the professors have appealed that it is very important to first correct the flaws of the current system, only then we can prepare a better structure for the new policy. In the memorandum, the professors have called for appropriate reforms to improve the evaluation process and have requested the university administration to call a meeting in this regard as soon as possible.
