Under the Palliative Care Programme, the elderly will be treated at home: Dr Manoj

A three-day training camp was organized in Mashobra as part of the state-wide Palliative Care Program, facilitated by the Health and Family Welfare Department. Ten doctors from the Mashobra block, along with 30 staff members, were trained by Dr. Manoj Verma, Medical Officer of Junga Civil Hospital, who returned from a Palliative Care training program in Kerala. Tips on caring for the elderly were provided.
Dr. Manoj Verma stated that under this program, senior citizens over the age of 70 will be treated at their doorsteps. He added that Himachal Pradesh will be the second state in the country, after Kerala, to launch this program, where elderly people suffering from various ailments or those who are bedridden will be treated at their homes. He explained that it is very difficult for family members to transport elderly people battling illnesses to the hospital. Under this program, the elderly will no longer have to be taken to the hospital; instead, the medical team will perform key tests and other treatments at home. He stated that the state government is going to launch this program soon.
Dr. Manoj stated that after the notification is issued, a special team will be formed at the Adarsh Health Institute, Junga. This team will include doctors and other paramedical staff who will visit the homes of selected elderly people in their area every month to provide care and treatment. He added that training for doctors and other staff members is underway throughout the state under the Palliative Care Program. The Palliative Care Program will be administered through the state’s Adarsh Health Institute, where the government will provide all necessary facilities for the medical team, including vehicles, other equipment, and medicines. He stated that this program will prove to be very beneficial for senior citizens.
