Under construction, bridge collapses in Jaladhi Kangra

An under-construction bridge at Jaldhi near Kangra in Himachal Pradesh collapsed on Monday, shattering the dreams of the people of 15 panchayats of the Changar area.

The arch bridge under construction was being made into a new engineering feat.

However, there was no loss of life in the incident. Eyewitnesses told us that two laborers had escaped minutes before the bridge collapsed.

The bridge was under construction since August 9, 2017, when the then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh laid its foundation stone.

For the last about six years the work was going on at a snail’s pace. It was a project of Rs. 3.43 cr. In five years and eight months, only 30 to 40 percent work on the bridge has been completed.
