Trio sentenced for life imprisonment in honor killing of an  infant in Himachal

 To clean the social stigma of birth of baby girl after 38 of solemnizing marriage, Trio of mother, mother-in-law and grandmother (Nani) were sentenced life imprisonment for strangling a newborn girl to death in Himachal. Kinnaur Additional District and Sessions Judge at Rampur in Shimla on Thursday convicted the three after hearing the case.  These include the child’s mother, grandmother and grandmother (Nani).  A fine of two lakh rupees was also imposed on these three.  All three had murdered the healthy baby girl born after 38 days of wedlock.  The accused Ganno Fakra, Fakra, Lima were sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh for strangling the newborn to death. In a press release issued here today , Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Kamal Chandel said that on March 25, 2017, a woman named Lima was brought to the hospital after complaining of stomach pain. Mother of victim baby belonged a Gujjar family gave birth to a healthy baby girl.  Along with Lima, her mother Ganno Fakra and grandmother Fakra also came to the hospital.  The three women did not want to keep the child, so they conspired to kill her.  After this, Lima’s mother stood at the door and the grandmother strangled the baby girl lying on Lima’s lap by putting a cloth over her mouth. On the other hand, after getting the delivery done in the hospital, when the nurse came to see the baby girl, she was not breathing. He immediately informed the doctor. The doctor who reached the spot got suspicious after seeing the body of the girl because there was a mark on her neck. There were marks of wiping blood around the child’s mouth as well. The doctors immediately informed the police, after which the girl’s body was sent to Shimla IGMC for postmortem. The post-mortem confirmed that the girl died of strangulation. After this all the three women were arrested. Police investigation revealed that the baby girl was born just 38 days after Lima’s marriage. Fearing dishonor in the society, the three women together killed him. The DNA test also confirmed that the child’s father was not Lima’s husband.
