Tribal Districts of Himachal Set for a Bright Future: Union Minister Rijiju Announces Major Development Push

In a significant boost for Himachal Pradesh’s tribal regions, Union Minister Kiran Rijiju announced on Thursday that transformative development projects are on the way, promising a new era of progress for Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur districts.

Speaking to reporters in Shimla, Rijiju, the Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs, revealed that projects worth over ₹85 crore will soon take shape in these high-altitude regions. During his upcoming visit, he will lay the foundation stones for these initiatives, marking a major step toward uplifting tribal communities.

Key Projects in the Pipeline

  • High Altitude Training Centre (₹73.77 crore) in Kaza, Lahaul & Spiti, aimed at boosting sports and skill development.
  • Additional infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity and livelihoods in border areas.

Rijiju emphasized that Himachal Pradesh stands out as the only state in India to secure such substantial investments for tribal and border region development. He highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in remote areas, ensuring they keep pace with neighboring regions.

Reflecting on past neglect, he recalled how, in 2013, former Defense Minister A.K. Antony had claimed that border areas would not see development. “Today, under our government, that mindset has changed. We are bridging gaps and ensuring progress reaches the last mile,” Rijiju stated.

The minister will visit Kinnaur on Friday and Lahaul & Spiti on Saturday, engaging with local communities to understand their needs and aspirations better.

This wave of development promises to bring new opportunities, better facilities, and a brighter future for the people of Himachal’s tribal heartland.
