Tragedy at KNH: Young Mother Dies After C-Section, Family Alleges Negligence
A 28-year-old woman, Archana—also known as Anju—tragically lost her life at Shimla’s Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH) less than a day after delivering her baby via cesarean section. What began as a hopeful moment for her family quickly turned into heartbreak, sparking grief and outrage within the hospital premises.
Archana, a resident of Gadhavag Fagu and wife of Ravindat Sharma, gave birth to her second child on Thursday around 11:30 a.m. Both mother and baby were reportedly declared stable after the surgery. But by the next morning, everything changed.
According to her family, hospital staff asked Archana to move beds around 8 a.m. on Friday. Despite having just undergone major surgery, she was allegedly made to walk—a move the family believes led to severe internal bleeding. Archana died soon after.
The sudden death has cast a shadow over the hospital, with her devastated family alleging negligence and demanding accountability. Police had to be called in to manage the tense situation as emotions ran high.
Archana leaves behind two children—an infant still in the hospital nursery, and an older child at home who may be too young to fully grasp the loss of a mother. Her family now wants answers, calling for an immediate inquiry into her care and the handling of post-operative patients at KNH, one of Himachal Pradesh’s key facilities for maternal health.
The incident is not an isolated one, as concerns over patient safety and post-surgical protocols continue to be raised across healthcare institutions in the region.
