Top Police Brass Shuffle: Himachal Govt Restructures Leadership in Statewide Overhaul
In a sweeping administrative shake-up, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring several senior IPS and HPS officers across the state. The transfer orders, issued by Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta from Shimla on Wednesday, signal a strategic realignment aimed at strengthening law enforcement and administrative efficiency across key regions.
Senior IPS Officers Take on New Roles
- Abhishek Trivedi, a 1996-batch IPS officer who previously held the post of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, has now been entrusted with the role of ADGP, Prisons and Correctional Services in Shimla.
- Prem Kumar Thakur, from the 2004 IPS batch and formerly Inspector General (IG) of Armed Police and Training, will now lead the Police Academy, Training and Research as IG in Shimla.
- Dr. DK Chaudhary, a 2008-batch officer and Principal of the Police Training College in Daroh, Kangra, has been appointed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Cyber Crime.
- Anupam Sharma, who served as DIG of Jails in Shimla, will now oversee Crime and CID operations as DIG in the state capital.
- Ranjana Chauhan, DIG of Law and Order, Shimla, has been reassigned to the State Human Rights Commission as DIG, Leave Reserve.
- Gurdev Chand Sharma has been handed additional charge as DIG, Law and Order, further consolidating his leadership role in state policing.
District-Level Changes: SPs on the Move
- Dr. Karthikeyan Gokulchandran, SP of Kullu, has been moved to Police Headquarters, Shimla, as Compulsory Waiting Officer.
- Manav Verma, currently Assistant IG at Police HQ, will now serve as SP, Compulsory Waiting Officer, Shimla.
- Ashok Rattan, SP of Nurpur, has been transferred to Kangra, while Madan Lal, Commandant of Home Guards (9th Battalion, Dharamshala), will take charge as SP Kullu.
- Balbir Singh, SP of Vigilance Bureau, Dharamshala Zone, has been appointed SP Hamirpur.
- Sushil Kumar, SP Leave Reserve, Police HQ, Shimla, will now serve as SP Kinnaur.
- Vinod Kumar, Commandant of Home Guards, Chamba, has been posted as the regular SP of Baddi.
- Vijay Kumar, SP Leave Reserve, Police HQ, Shimla, has been transferred to SP Chamba.
- Kulbhushan Verma, SP Vigilance Bureau, Mandi Zone, will now take over as SP Nurpur.
New Appointments in Police Headquarters and Vigilance
- Abhishek Yadav, SP Chamba, has been promoted to Assistant IG at Police HQ, Shimla.
- Abhishek Singh, SP Kinnaur, will now serve as SP Law and Order at Police HQ.
- Sachin Hiremath, ASP Mandi, has been appointed SP Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC), Mandi Zone.
- Abhishek, SDOP Baddi, will now serve as ASP Shimla.
- Adit Singh, ASP Leave Reserve, Kangra, has been promoted to SP V&AC, Kangra.
- Sachin Hiremath also takes on the role of SP Vigilance, Mandi Zone, in a dual capacity.
HPS Officers Also Reassigned
In addition to the IPS reshuffle, several Himachal Pradesh Police Service (HPS) officers have also been transferred, although specific details were not disclosed in the announcement.
