Today, due to political neglect, a large part of Mashobra Block is backward in education – Dr. Tanwar

Himachal Pradesh has been the first karmabhoomi of literacy campaign. The literacy campaign was started from Shoghi on 1 March 1992. Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti started the literacy campaign voluntarily from 15 panchayats of this block. This was named the Action Research Model. Later, on the basis of this model, literacy campaign was started in the state. The most benefited from the campaign were the deprived sections of the society, including Dalits, women, people from inaccessible districts and areas. Literacy showed women the light of a new world outside the home and instilled a confidence in them. Self-help groups are the result of the awareness and energy generated by the Sakshatra campaign. Today women are actively participating in every field.

On the occasion of International Literacy Day, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, Founder President of the Committee and former National General Secretary of the Gyan Vigyan Samiti, said that after independence Literacy movement has been the biggest movement till date, which raised crores of people across the country on one platform for a cause with sacrifice, dedication, selfless volunteer spirit.

Dr. Tanwar said that he regrets that the land which taught the state the lesson of literacy and gave a different identity to the country, that region is lagging behind in education due to political neglect. The condition of education is particularly bad in Kasumpti assembly constituency. Many school buildings are in dilapidated condition where children and teachers live in fear all the time. There are no teachers in primary schools or only one teacher for five classes. About 95% plus two ( +2 ) schools in Kasumpti area do not have science and commerce subjects at all. The daughters for whom literacy campaign was taken to their door-to-door because they were informed that in those days schools were far away and daughters were not sent away, today the same situation is returning. Daughters are being deprived of higher education because there are limited opportunities of education for them in the schools around them. Due to lack of science and commerce, the possibilities of making a future for them have also been limited. Opportunities to make a career in these two subjects are missing from them.

Dr. Tanwar said that Kasumpti assembly constituency has a large Dalit population and majority of the children of this community study in rural schools. He said that on the occasion of Literacy Day, he visited various schools in Kasumpti area. There is no regular teacher in primary school blog. Teachers are sent on deputation. There are a total of 14 children in the school out of which 13 children belong to the Dalit community. The same situation was with the Dhali school.

Dr. Tanwar said that today the situation is again reaching the deprived sections for which literacy campaign was started. Children are going to the next classes with a weak foundation of education but their future is bleak.

Dr. Tanwar said that the foundation of the development of any region rests on its better education, which is unfortunately lacking in the Kasumpti region.
