Three workers hailing from Jharkhand die under avalanche in Kinnaur

Three workers hailing from Jharkhand tragically perished in an avalanche incident near the Kafnu Hydropower project in the Kinnaur district, as confirmed by an administration official this afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Riuman Kindo (42) from Urmi village, Jharkhand, Virma Urao (45) from Kuchatole village, and Ratan Lal (32) from Kuchatole village, were killed in the mishap, while two others sustained injuries.

The injured individuals, Krishna (38) from Nepal and Chandra Nath (43) from Lwanage village, Jharkhand, have been admitted to the local hospital in Bhavnagar for treatment.

In a separate incident following heavy snowfall in the Kaza subdivision of Lahaul Spiti, an avalanche struck the residence of Chhering Angdui, son of Dorje Tandup, from Lalung village at 0200 hrs. Angdui, along with his wife and three children, were asleep when the avalanche occurred. Remarkably, Angdui managed to rescue his family members from beneath the snow, saving their lives. Presently, all individuals involved are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy snowfall and rain in select areas as a western disturbance is set to become active in Himachal Pradesh on March 13 and 14. Consequently, light snowfall is anticipated in high-altitude districts, while hailstorms accompanied by rain are expected in middle and lower areas of the state during this period. The Meteorological Center forecasts the western disturbance to persist for two days before the weather clears up in Himachal Pradesh until March 20.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures in various regions of Himachal Pradesh have been recorded, with Shimla at 7.6 degrees Celsius, Manali at 8.4 degrees, Kangra at 11.3 degrees, Mandi at 11.1 degrees, Bilaspur at 9.9 degrees, Chamba at 10.3 degrees, Dalhousie at 6.9 degrees, Jubbarhatti at 10.8 degrees, Kufri at 6.4 degrees, Kukumseri at -6.3 degrees, Narkanda at 3.8 degrees, Reckong Peo at 3.8 degrees, Seubagh at 12.0 degrees, Dhaula Kuan in Sirmaur at 13.2 degrees, Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur at 12.0 degrees, and Dehradun Gopipur in Kangra at 12.0 degrees Celsius.
