Tekinder Panwar begin hunger strike in support of Sonam Wangchuk

 Former Deputy Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Tekinder Panwar began hunger strike in support of social worker Sonam Wangchuk, at Ridge Maidan in Shimla in Himachal Pradesh today.  Sonam Wangchuk, the man who inspired Aamir Khan’s character as Rancho in the Bollywood blockbuster film ‘3 Idiots’, has started the campaign ‘Save the Himalayas’, which is being supported by Shimla-based social workers.  On the other hand, Sonam Wangchuk has made big allegations against the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and says that only LG’s arbitrariness is going on there.  No work is being done since three years. Sonam Wangchuk called upon all the people in the video to join her campaign on 30th January. Mr Panwar said that  after  the social workers he decided to went on a one-day hunger strike today in their support. These people fasted in front of the statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Ridge ground in Shimla. The demonstration went off peacefully. The name of this campaign has been kept “Save the Himalayas, secure your future”. Former deputy mayor said that due to the negligence of industries in Leh Ladakh, the glaciers are on the verge of receding.  The campaign to save them has started. Sonam Wangchuk, a well-known social worker of Ladakh and campaigning to maintain the eco system here, is on strike these days. We are on hunger strike in Shimla in his support. Social worker Tikendra Panwar said that the kind of negligence that is happening in Ladakh, the same kind of negligence is being done in Himachal. In Himachal too, due to growing industry and indiscriminate mountain erosion, glaciers are receding speedily.
