TB-Free India : Campaign gains momentum at Himachal Pradesh Central University

The Red Ribbon Club of Himachal Pradesh Central University in Dharamshala is actively organizing various health-related activities aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle among youth and raising awareness about critical health issues. Coordinators Dr. Bharat Singh and Dr. Amreek Singh Thakur stated that the club focuses on educating students about health challenges through initiatives like:

Awareness Programs: Seminars, workshops, poster and slogan competitions, and street plays highlighting issues like HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, drug abuse, tobacco, and alcohol.

  • Health Check-Up Camps: Screenings for HIV/AIDS, blood pressure, and sugar levels.
  • Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Yoga, meditation, fitness activities, and workshops on nutrition and healthy eating habits.
  • Community Services: Awareness programs in schools and blood donation camps.

A special program organized by the Red Ribbon Club at the university’s Dhauladhar Campus-1 gave a new boost to the ‘TB-Free India’ campaign. The event featured Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sood, District TB Officer of Kangra, as the chief guest, and Dr. Lalit Mohan, Assistant Professor at the university, as the program chairperson.

The program aimed to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB) among students, teachers, and the local community, inspiring collective efforts to eradicate the disease. Dr. Sood provided detailed insights into TB and emphasized that it is treatable with timely medical intervention. He urged people to recognize its symptoms early and seek treatment promptly. Dr. Lalit Mohan encouraged active participation from students and faculty in the campaign, emphasizing the university’s responsibility to contribute to societal health.

The event witnessed significant participation from university researchers and students.

This initiative by Himachal Pradesh Central University marks a significant step toward achieving a TB-free India. With the collective efforts of students, faculty, and the local community, the campaign has the potential to make a meaningful impact.
