Taekwondo team of the Education Department will showcase its talent at the national level
For the first time, the Himachal Pradesh Education Department’s under-14 student team is participating in the national taekwondo competition in Dimapur, Nagaland. The department has entrusted the leadership of Sukhdev Rana, a PET from the Junga region. Ten players from the state are participating in this team.
Sukhdev Rana is a skilled Taekwondo player, which is why he has been entrusted with the leadership of the Himachal team. Sukhdev Rana has been serving as a physical education teacher at a government school for the past six years. Eight children trained by Sukhdev have already participated in the national grappling competition held in Bhopal in 2024.
He explained that at the age of 17, he joined the Indian Army’s Para Commandos directly and performed numerous heroic and notable feats during his 17 years of service to the nation, from 1994 to 2011. Sukhdev Rana is also a first-degree Black Belt holder, a first-degree recipient in Karate, and a national-level referee.
Sukhdev Rana explained that Taekwondo is a martial sport developed in the 1940s and 1950s by Korean martial artists who had experience with karate and Chinese arts. Taekwondo is also one of the most popular and practiced martial arts in India. Its main characteristics are punching and kicking techniques.
He has expressed his gratitude to Education Director Ashish Kohli and other officials for entrusting him with the responsibility of Himachal Pradesh’s Taekwondo team.
