Suspicious death of a student in NIT Hamirpur, police investigating the case

An MTech first-year student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur has died under suspicious circumstances. However, after the death, the whole matter remains suspicious, because the student was found dead in the morning after sleeping at night. Police investigation found that the student had taken a drug overdose. At present, SP Dr. Aakriti Sharma, and DSP Rohin Dogra police have reached the spot and are engaged in an intensive investigation. The police have also interrogated about a dozen students staying in the hostel along with the students and have also recovered some quantity of smack from the hostel. Due to this raids have also been conducted in the hostel. The forensic team that came from Mandi has also attributed the death of the student to the consumption of some intoxicant.

According to the information, this incident happened in hostel number 211-M of NIT Hamirpur. The student has been identified as Sujal Sharma, 22, of Bilaspur. Sujal Sharma was a first-year M.Tech student. The student’s family has also reached the spot. Let us tell you that the annual festival Hill Fair has been going on at NIT Hamirpur for the last three days. Students participated in the festival till late night. Last Sunday night was the last evening, the students participated in the program till 12 midnight. Later had fun on DJ till 4 in the morning. But suddenly after 4 o’clock, after receiving a call from an anonymous person, Sujal went missing and was later found dead in the hostel room.
In fact, the three-day Hilfair closing ceremony ended yesterday at NIT Institute. The student had gone to this program at night. Returned late at night and slept again. But when Sujal Sharma was picked up for breakfast in the morning, he did not wake up. Later the administration was informed. As soon as the information was received, district police officers and the health department team reached the spot. Doctors declared Sujal dead. After that, the family members also reached the spot.

Sujal’s father Sushil Sharma expressed grief over his son’s death and raised questions over the security arrangements of the NIT administration. Expressing grief, Sushil Sharma said that parents come to NIT to take degrees of their children but have come to take the dead body of their son. Therefore, questions have also been raised on the security of NIT administration. He said that if drugs are reaching the NIT campus then how all this is happening should be investigated and strict action should be taken against the culprits.

SP Hamirpur Aakriti Sharma said that according to the preliminary investigation in the case, the student seems to have died due to a drug overdose. A case has been registered under section 304 of IPC and one accused has also been arrested. Heroin has also been recovered from the arrested accused.
