Strengthening Food Security: Himachal’s State Food Commission Charts the Way Forward
The Himachal Pradesh State Food Commission recently held a meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. S. P. Katyal at the Commission’s Conference Hall, bringing together senior officials including Smt. Chhavi Nanta, Sh. Hitesh Azad, Sh. Jeevan Singh, and Sh. Yogesh Chauhan.
Welcoming newly joined members, Dr. Katyal reminded everyone of the Commission’s statutory mandate under the National Food Security Act, 2013—to ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives their rightful entitlements transparently and efficiently.
The discussions focused on strengthening coordination with departments, enhancing engagement with district authorities, and improving monitoring and grievance redressal mechanisms. Members pledged to actively contribute to the effective delivery of food security schemes across the state.
Key priorities included:
- Timely disposal of grievances and regular follow-ups with District Grievance Redressal Officers.
- Improved documentation and periodic reporting for better monitoring.
- Field inspections and direct interaction with beneficiaries to ensure food grains are available and of good quality.
Additional matters such as periodic review meetings, stakeholder awareness, and stronger reporting mechanisms were also discussed.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Katyal appreciated the active participation of members and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to strengthening food security mechanisms in Himachal Pradesh, ensuring that no family is left behind.
