Storm Watch: Himachal Braces for Hail and Thunder as Weather Turns Unsettled

A shift in weather is on the horizon for Himachal Pradesh, with a fresh western disturbance expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and hail starting Sunday. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an orange alert for hailstorms on Monday in several districts, including Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Sirmaur, Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.

This alert comes as part of a broader forecast predicting unstable weather across the middle and high hill regions through May 21. While high-altitude areas remained cloudy on Saturday, the lower plains basked in sunshine and rising temperatures. Una once again sizzled past 40°C, and 15 other locations recorded highs above 30°C.

What to Expect

  • Sunday: Dry and sunny in the lower districts—Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Kangra—where temperatures are expected to climb even higher.
  • Elsewhere: Light rain may occur in isolated parts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.
  • Monday: Orange alert in effect for hailstorms in several mid and high hill districts.

Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and take precautions, especially in hail-prone areas. Farmers, in particular, should be cautious as hail can damage crops.
