STF Officers in Himachal Face Remand in LSD Trafficking Case

In a shocking twist to Himachal Pradesh’s fight against drugs, four police personnel from the Special Task Force (STF)—a unit created to crack down on narcotics—have themselves landed in trouble. A local court on Friday sent them to four-day police remand after their arrest in connection with an LSD trafficking case registered under the NDPS Act at New Shimla Police Station.

The case has raised serious concerns about accountability within the force. Investigators allege that on March 8, 2026, the STF team intercepted Neville Harrison at Bhuntar, who was carrying 1,450 strips of LSD and 30 grams of MDMA. Instead of following procedure and registering the seizure, the officers allegedly kept the contraband for themselves, suppressing the recovery.

This alleged act of misappropriation has become the centerpiece of the probe. Authorities are now trying to determine whether the officers acted alone or were part of a larger network. The State CID has joined the investigation, examining their financial records and possible links to the wider drug trade.

The arrests are particularly troubling because the STF was set up as a flagship initiative to combat Himachal’s growing drug menace. The involvement of its own personnel has cast a shadow over the unit’s credibility and triggered calls for a deeper review of its functioning.

As the remand continues, investigators expect more disclosures that could reveal the scale of the breach. For now, the case stands as a stark reminder of how the fight against drugs can be undermined when those entrusted with responsibility betray public trust.
