Snowfall continues in Kufri – nearly two and a half feet of snow recorded till 4 pm

 Due to heavy snowfall, the Kufri-Chail road has been closed, halting vehicular traffic since Friday morning. Work to reopen the road is underway at a war footing. After a continuous drought for the past four months, snowfall occurred in the higher elevations and rain in the lower elevations on Friday morning, bringing smiles to the faces of farmers and gardeners. Shashank Atri, deputy head of the Kufri Panchayat, said that snowfall began in the tourist destination Kufri early in the morning, and by 4 pm, about two and a half feet of snow had fallen, and the snowfall is continuing. He added that power supply has been affected in many places, including Kufri.
Devesh Thakur, Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department, Sub-Division Junga, stated that two JCBs and laborers have been deployed to reopen the Kufri-Chail Major District Road (MDR), but continuous heavy snowfall is hampering the work. He stated that efforts are underway to reopen this major road. He added that heavy snowfall has closed eight roads in the Junga sub-division, including the Kufri-Chail road, the Galu Nala link road, the Shilogbag Bharadia road, the Jatoli road, the Janedghat Dublu road, the Chhalanda-Junga road, the Badhawani road, and the Old Kasupanti Junga road. He stated that efforts will be made to reopen all the blocked roads soon.
