SKM pays heartfelt condolences on the demise of Atul Kumar Anjan
SKM expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the demise of Atul Kumar Anjan, the general secretary of All India Kisan Sabha (Ajoy Bhawan) and central secretariat member of the Communist Party of India. He was 68 and under treatment for the last few months for cancer and died in the early morning on 3rd May 2024 at Lucknow.
SKM has lost one of its founder leaders who always stood for the issue-based united movement to fight the anti-farmer policies of the successive Union Governments. He was a model for all those fighting to achieve and protect the rights of all sections of the people. Atul Kumar earned public attention while he was a student activist, becoming the president of the Lucknow University Students Union and later becoming one of the pioneering leaders of the peasant movement and the torchbearer of the united movement of the farmers and workers.
Atul Kumar Anjan made a genuine contribution as a member of the National Commission for Farmers under the chair of the late MS Swaminathan in coining the demand of MSP@C2+50% and also in building the ever-largest unity of the farmers under the banner of SKM. In between, he and his organization relentlessly worked independently as well as united with other like-minded organizations to make this a concrete demand in the consciousness of peasantry all across India.
Atul Kumar Anjan had a decisive role in building a united farmers movement including Bhumi Adhikar Andolan –BAA against the Land Acquisition ordinance of 2015, All India Kisan Sangharsh Samithy-AIKSCC on the main two demands of MSP@C2+50% for all crops with legally guaranteed procurement and comprehensive loan waiver in 2017 and in the formation of the Smyukta Kisan Morcha –SKM against the three pro-corporate farm acts in 2020.
SKM conveys its deep sorrow to his family members, fellow activists and friends and relatives and takes the pledge to carry forward the struggle for all the rights of the farmers and workers for which Atul Kumar Anjan stood throughout his life.
