Sirmaur Blooms with Snowfall After Long Drought, Bringing Relief and Hope

The high reaches of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh finally received their first snowfall of the season today, marking a joyous end to a two-month long drought. The sight of snow-covered peaks brought smiles to the faces of farmers, apple growers, and tourism businesses alike, offering a much-needed boost to the region.

Churdhar peak, standing tall at 11,000 feet, received the most snowfall, with a blanket of 4-5 feet. This much-awaited precipitation comes as a sigh of relief after a harsh winter that saw crops ruined and horticulture struggling. Farmers and apple growers are now hopeful of a good harvest thanks to the replenished soil moisture.

The delayed snowfall had also severely impacted the tourism industry in Haripurdhar, Nauhradhar, and Rajgarh areas. With the white magic finally descending, hopes are high for an influx of tourists eager to experience the winter wonderland. Mela Ram Sharma, Managing Director of Manav Hill Resort, expressed how the lack of snowfall earlier meant minimal tourist footfall and significant losses. He believes today’s snowfall will not only attract tourists but also revive the local economy.

While the initial snowfall brought about half a foot of snow, the previous months of drought remain a concern. Nevertheless, the snowfall offers a beacon of hope for a better water supply in the coming summer months.

This story highlights the transformative power of snowfall in Sirmaur, bringing not just scenic beauty but also much-needed relief and hope for the future.
