Shimla’s Lions Club Leads by Example: Spreads Eco-Consciousness with Jute Bags Drive
With the motto “We Serve”, the Lions Club of Shimla has long been dedicated to the civic, cultural, and social upliftment of the community. Now, they’ve taken another meaningful step by addressing the growing concern of environmental degradation caused by plastic waste.
Club President Lion Man Mohan Verma shared that the organisation is not just committed to service, but also to sustainability. In their latest initiative, the club launched a multi-faceted campaign to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic and encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives.
As part of this campaign, the club distributed 150 reusable jute bags to locals and tourists near the Bus Stand (IGMC) in Shimla. The idea is simple yet powerful—provide people with a sustainable option so that they can collect their waste and dispose of it responsibly, instead of littering.
This initiative aims to strengthen the message of “Say No to Plastic” while promoting cleanliness in and around Shimla. The jute bags, a practical and eco-conscious choice, are a step towards reducing plastic dependency and preserving the natural beauty of the hill town.
The event saw active participation from several club members, including President Lion Man Mohan Verma, Project Chairperson Lion Ravi Sood, Secretary Lion M.K. Sharma, Lion Sufal Sood, Lion D.K. Chauhan, Lion J.P. Sharma, Lion Sunil Sood, and Lion Dr. Rajesh Chanana. Together, they engaged with the public, urging them to make environmentally responsible choices and be a part of the change.
By blending service with sustainability, Lions Club Shimla is setting a fine example of how community-led efforts can make a big difference.
