Shimla Ropeway Project: Authorities Urged to Complete Formalities Swiftly
A meeting was held to discuss the proposed Shimla Ropeway project, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. During the meeting, Ropeway and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation H.P. Limited provided a detailed presentation on the project.
Deputy Commissioner Kashyap highlighted that the Shimla Ropeway is a key state project, spanning 13.79 kilometers with a total estimated cost of Rs 1734.70 crore. The project will feature 13 boarding and de-boarding stations, along with a turning station. Its primary goal is to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance transport efficiency in Shimla’s hilly terrain. It will also serve as a reliable transport option for both locals and tourists.
Kashyap stated that 104 towers will be installed as part of the project, which requires approval from the land acquisition and forest departments. He instructed the corporation officials to submit a comprehensive list of required land, enabling the revenue department to carry out spot assessments. Most of the land approvals will need to come from the Forest Department, with additional land being acquired from railways, universities, and private owners. He urged officials to expedite the completion of all necessary formalities and instructed the Forest Department to proceed with construction as soon as possible.
Present at the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, Additional District Magistrate (Law & Order) Ajit Bhardwaj, Chief General Manager of Ropeway and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation Engineer Rohit Thakur, Deputy General Manager Engineer Munish Sahni, and other officials.
