Shimla Ice skating clubs alleged ruining of rink premises

Simla Ice Skating Club seeks the intervention of Shimla Municipal Corporation Commissioner  removal of hazardous establishments from rink premises. 
Club Organizing Secretary of Simla Ice Skating Rink(SISR) Manpreet Singh in a letter sent Commissioner of SMC  brought this matter in his  notice.

Mr Singh said that the historical ” Simla Ice Skating Club ” is being ruined with every passing day and one – third of the rink being taken by Smart City contractor for lift related construction . 
 A retaining walls was constructed with allocation of INR 45,00,000 / ( forty five lac ) from department of Sports have been badly damaged and need urgent conservation of these for smooth skating sessions .  
HRTC which Control Lakar bazar bus stand  allotted three new dhabas within the premises to vendors who are flouting every norm laid by the government .
Secretary said that dhabas did not provide any water or sewerage connection contaminating the SISR and moreover vendors are displaying their wares in the middle of the approach road. 
Currently SISlR is in session contaminating the premises causing  health hazard and a social hazard for young children.  
Vendors and local people are also routinely burning garbage and damaging the sanctity of the rink. 
Club said that SMC should  look into the matter and remove these illegal establishments immediately. 
 Talking to UNI SMC Commissioner Mr Ashish Kohali said that they are taking action in the complainant and would deploy health and Civic body team to restore the sanity of the club soon and matter under his supervision on the complainant received from SISR.

Organizer of the session Manpreet Singh said that the ice skating rink completed 100 years and since then skating has been taking place here. 
He said that last years only few scattered could turned due to covid pandemic however every year about three and a half hundred children participate here and many types of competitions are also organized.
The Ice skating Rink christened as ” Simla Ice skating Club ” was established in 1920 by Mr. Blessington, an Britisher, as one morning he found water taps and even the trickles of water frozen in the vicinity of his tennis courts, flooded the courts with water which to his utter joy got frozen.
“This is the tale how the tennis courts were converted into ice skating rink during the winters of 1920. ” Mr Singh said.
There are four natural Ice Skating Rink in the world and SIRC is oldest one. Natural Ice Skating Rinks are at Gulmarg in Jumma & Kashmir, Switzerland and Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti district also witnessing similar seasonal session, he added.
