Shimla DC Cracks the Whip on Revenue Officials, Orders Faster Action on Land Cases

Public frustration over delays in land demarcation has finally drawn tough action in Shimla. District Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, breaking routine by holding a meeting on a Sunday, pulled up revenue officials for negligence and warned them to act swiftly.

During the meeting, the DC expressed sharp anger over the growing backlog of files and slow handling of demarcation cases. He issued a strict ultimatum: patwaris and kanungos must issue summons within seven days, or face departmental action. The warning has sent shockwaves through the administrative machinery, while locals hope this will finally bring relief in long‑pending land disputes.

Kashyap reminded officers that the Revenue Department’s image has suffered badly among the public due to unnecessary delays and poor behavior by field staff. He stressed that accountability and discipline are essential to rebuild trust. He also directed patwaris to verify lambardar appointment letters, check financial aid beneficiaries, and hold awareness meetings against drug abuse in their circles—tying administrative efficiency with community responsibility.

The DC’s tough stance comes after revelations that no summons had been issued in certain cases for nearly 11 months. With officials unable to provide satisfactory answers, Kashyap ordered revenue staff to step into the field immediately and warned of strict consequences for further lapses.

For residents of Shimla, this crackdown signals hope that their long‑ignored land issues may finally see resolution.
