Shahukaro Ra Swang was performed at Habib Mansingh Art Center

Internationally renowned folk artist Dr. Jogendra Habib told in a press statement that the play Shahukaro Ra Swang was staged yesterday at Habib Mansingh Kala Kendra located in Jalag of sub-tehsil Pajhouta under the Guru-Shishya tradition, courtesy of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The program was inaugurated by Padmashree Vidyanand Saraik. The program started with folk music. First of all, folk artists of Aasra presented Naugat on folk instruments. After that, Shahukaro Ra Swang folk drama was staged in the traditional hill environment. By setting up a set on the stage of Kala Kendra and depicting the rural environment, each artist played his role in an excellent manner and left an indelible impression on the audience.

The above play was prepared by Aasra Sanstha under the guidance of Guru Padmashri Vidyanand Saraik and Dr. Jogendra Habbi by giving training under the Guru-Shishya tradition. In the folk drama Shahukaro Ra Swang, a strong attack was made on the evils prevalent in today’s times like hoarding, profiteering, adulteration in food items, corruption, theft, murder and looting.

In the folk drama Shahukaro Ra Swang, the shopkeeper earns a lot of money by getting his accountant to adulterate food items. The accountant also had his eyes on the Seth’s wealth. The accountant and the Seth’s wife together kill the Seth in the greed to grab the Seth’s wealth, but in the end the police catches them and they are punished.

This folk drama also highlights better law and order and fair justice system. It is worth mentioning that the artists of Aasra Sanstha have successfully staged and prepared many folk dramas under the guidance of Guru Padmashri Vidyanand Saraik and Dr. Jogendra Habbi in the Guru-Shishya tradition for the past many years. Aasra is trying to refine the folk dramas that are becoming extinct and stage them in an attractive manner.

About twenty five artists including Ramlal, Gopal, Sandeep, Chaman, Saroj, Anu, Dinesh, Anil, Aarti, Hemlata, Jogendra, Sunil, Amichand, Om Prakash, Krishna, Aman etc. played the main roles in the folk drama characters.
