Seventh Government University to be set up in Mandi in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh will have a seventh University in the name of higher education Institutions shortly as the state government on Saturday brought legislation to set up another state university at Mandi of Himachal Pradesh.

Introducing legislation to amend the Himachal Pradesh Universities Act, 1970, the Education Minister Mr. Govind Singh Thakur said that presently the jurisdiction of this university was over the entire state. 

In the last five decades, many government colleges, as well as private colleges, have been opened in the state.

 In order to increase the access of students to higher education and to improve the quality of education, it has been decided to establish another University namely Sardar Patel University, Mandi (Himachal Pradesh).

With the establishment of a new university, there would be effective control over the affiliated colleges and it would also help in supervision.

 The aforesaid Act is required to be amended with a view to bring the territory of the State under the jurisdiction of the two Universities and to remove any dispute of jurisdiction he added.

Presently there are six government universities in the state including

a central University located in Dharamshala.
