Red Cross activities to be organized in remote areas of state: Governor

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who is also the President of the State Red Cross, exhorted the volunteers of the Red Cross to come forward with the spirit of making their valuable contribution to the society through the organization. He said that they should work as a family by joining Red Cross, which will bring better results of social service.

The Governor was presiding over the meeting of Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section at Red Cross Bhawan here today.

He said that International Red Cross Day is celebrated every year on 8th May. On this day, funds were being collected by pinning up the flag of Red Cross to conduct the activities of the organization more effectively. He said that even after 8th May, various activities should be conducted throughout the week. He said that this year Red Cross would work at the regional level with theme “Mother and Child Health Care”. He said that the work would be done at the grassroots level by involving the District Administration and District Red Cross Secretaries, Anganwari workers and hospitals at the district level.

The Governor said that all the members of the Hospital Welfare Section should contribute at the regional level. He said that the Red Cross is a divine work, which is being done through us. He said Red Cross is a big organization, working at international level. He said that work of Red Cross Blood Bank being constructed at Nalagarh would be completed soon. He also directed to organize regular meetings of Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section.

President of State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section and Member of National Red Cross Management Committee Dr. Sadhna Thakur while welcoming the Governor on this occasion detailed about the activities of Hospital welfare Section. She said that the State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch provided counseling services to the patients living in home isolation by creating a WhatsApp group during the Corona pandemic. She said that a panel of 22 doctors was framed, who used to provide counseling services to Corona patients in different slots. She said that Red Cross, in collaboration with the Forest Department organized Van Mahotsav and planted one lakh saplings in a day. During this, blood donation camps, ashram visits, health kits were also distributed. She said that volunteers prepared and distributed masks, blankets, tents, free ration etc. to the poor through Red Cross.

It was decided that Red Cross fair would be organized between the last week of May and the first week of June.

Earlier, Honorary Secretary, State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section Dr. Kimi Sood, welcomed the Governor.

Secretary, State Red Cross, Sanjeev Kumar welcomed the Governor and other office bearers.

Secretary to the Governor and General Secretary of the State Red Cross Vivek Bhatia conducted the proceedings.

Vice President State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section Madhu Sood presented vote of thanks.
