Rajni Patil Returns as Himachal Congress In-Charge: A Strategic Move by the Party

In a key organizational reshuffle, the Congress party has reinstated Rajya Sabha MP Rajni Patil as the in-charge of its Himachal Pradesh unit, replacing Rajiv Shukla. Along with this, she has also been given charge of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The decision was officially announced through a press release issued by AICC General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal late Friday.

A Familiar Face Returns

Rajni Patil is no stranger to this role, having previously served as Himachal Congress in-charge from 2018 to 2021. Her reappointment signals the party’s confidence in her leadership, particularly at a time when the Congress is looking to revitalize its state-level organization.

This move is part of a broader reshuffle within the All India Congress Committee (AICC), which saw in-charges changed for nine states. The decision comes amid ongoing organizational challenges, with the party aiming to strengthen its leadership ahead of crucial political battles.

Reviving a “Paralyzed” State Unit

Patil’s return to Himachal Pradesh Congress is expected to bring new direction and momentum. The state unit has been grappling with leadership voids, as no office bearers have been appointed yet. Even senior Congress leaders have described the party as “paralyzed” in the state. However, with this high-command intervention, the long-pending expansion of party executives—including both experienced leaders and fresh faces—is likely to get a green signal soon.

Currently, Himachal Congress has only a state president, with other key positions remaining vacant. Speculation is also rife that the party is considering replacing the current state president, adding further intrigue to the unfolding political developments.

As the Congress gears up for future electoral challenges, all eyes will be on Rajni Patil’s strategy to rebuild the party’s grassroots structure and restore its political footing in Himachal Pradesh.
