Pushpendra of Sonipat won the big prize in Talai Chhinj Mela
The traditional Chhij Mela was concluded with great gaiety last evening at Talai near Chiyog in Kasupanti constituency. In which the famous wrestler of Sonipat Pushpendra defeated the famous wrestler Ashish of Chandigarh in the final and won Mali. Mali winner Pushpendra is serving in the Indian Navy. While Sahil Pandit of Una won Choti Mali by defeating Paras of Kangra. The Mela Committee had kept a prize of 1.5 lakh for Badi Mali and 51 thousand for Choti Mali. The prize for Badi Mali has been sponsored by the head of the State Arhatiya Sangh Harish Thakur.
It is worth noting that every year thousands of people gather to enjoy this Chhinj fair. Apart from Shimla district, people from Sirmaur and Solan on the border also participate in it. Dinesh Jagta, Pradhan of Chiyog Panchayat said that Chhinj fair has been organized in the name of Kali Mata of Deshu Timba in the month of Asoj since ages. People believe that the fair organized in the name of Kali Mata does not lead to the outbreak of any epidemic but brings happiness and prosperity.
He told that this year a fund of Rs. 1.5 lakhs was kept by the Chhinj Mela Committee. Numerous generous people have contributed for the organization of this Chhinj Mela. He told that the cost of organizing this Chhinj Mela is around Rs. 10 lakhs. Pradhan Dinesh Jagta has requested the state government to give district level status to this traditional fair.
