Promises on Paper, Progress Missing: Jairam Thakur Questions Himachal Budgets
Opposition leader and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has accused the Sukhu-led Congress government of failing to deliver on its budget promises. He argued that while the government has presented massive budgets over the past three years, many of its flagship schemes remain stuck in files and have not reached the people they were meant to benefit.
Thakur criticized the repeated announcements that never see implementation, highlighting unfulfilled commitments to women, students, farmers, and youth. He pointed to the stalled electric scooter subsidy for meritorious female students, the lack of progress on green corridors for electric vehicles, and pending health infrastructure projects like PET scan facilities.
He also raised concerns about employment generation and self-reliance initiatives that have yet to materialize, despite the government borrowing heavily and presenting budgets worth nearly ₹2.2 lakh crore.
Calling for accountability, Thakur demanded that the Chief Minister clarify the status of past promises before presenting the next budget, stressing that people deserve transparency and action—not just announcements.
