20 Cr of public money to be wasted, KNH to be shifted to IGMC—Patients at Risk: Sandipani

BJP spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj has cornered the Congress government over the alleged process of shifting Kamala Nehru Hospital to IGMC, calling it “not system change, but system destruction”.

He said that Kamala Nehru Hospital, which has been the lifeline for mothers and newborns of Himachal Pradesh for the last 100 years, is in danger today due to the wrong policies of the Congress government.

“The institution which was strengthened by the governments of Shanta Kumar, Virbhadra Singh, Prem Kumar Dhumal and Jairam Thakur, is today being destroyed by the Congress in the name of ‘silent shifting’,” he said.

Sandipani Bhardwaj alleged that this entire matter is being taken forward without any official order.

“Verbal instructions are being given for shifting from April 16, but there is no notification—this is not governance, this is arbitrariness,” he said.

He said that doctors, nurses and the entire medical staff have opposed this decision, despite this the government is forcibly imposing the decision.

“IGMC is already full—patients have to be shifted to the drain”

The BJP spokesperson said the IGMC is already overcrowded and there is no arrangement to accommodate a 300-bed dedicated hospital.

“Cramming maternal and neonatal services into wards that are already full is simply endangering the lives of patients,” he said.

He made serious allegations, saying that some facilities are being temporarily shifted near the drain.

“This is not just mismanagement, it is inhumanity.”

“₹20 crore spent, now all wasted—Congress’s priority is politics, not patients.”

Sandipani Bhardwaj said that more than ₹20 crore had been spent on upgrading the Kamala Nehru Hospital and future plans were also ready.

“Today that entire system is being dismantled—it’s a betrayal of both the public’s money and health,” he said.

He also alleged that discussions about using the hospital land for other uses—such as MLA hostel—raise serious questions.

“If this is true, it clearly shows that political convenience matters more to the Congress government than the lives of patients,” he said.

“IGMC is a cold place—a risk to newborns, but the government doesn’t care.”

He said that while the location of Kamala Nehru Hospital is suitable for patients, the cold environment of IGMC is risky for newborn babies.

“This decision is being made based on political pressure, not medical science,” he said.

“People are on the streets, preparing to approach the court.”

Sandipani Bhardwaj said that doctors, citizens and social organizations are now forced to take to the streets against this decision and can also approach the court.
