People demanded to install crash barriers in Jaghed Dhank and Kainchi
The 1.25 km long road connecting Jaghed of Sirmaur district beyond the Nariga bridge built on Giri river in Kasumpti constituency has become very risky. There are three curves in this part of the road, out of which two are very narrow. Bus and truck drivers cross these curves with great difficulty. Even a small mistake can cause an accident any time. Apart from this, about 250 meters of this road passes through the slope. The Public Works Department has not installed any parapet or crash barrier for safety till date on this road built about 35 years ago. Due to heavy collision in the slope part of the road, vehicles loaded with vegetables etc. are not able to climb and many times vehicles loaded with vegetables have met with accidents.
Many people including former head of Peeran Panchayat, Bal Ram Nirmohi, Dayaram Verma, Daulat Ram Mehta told that the condition of Chhalanda-Peeran- Jaghed road has become very pathetic in rainy season. In the last two years, the entire road from Anji to Peeran-Khaltu has turned into potholes, but the department is helpless in paving this part of the road due to lack of budget. A large part of the road has broken in Thund Nala, where alternative arrangements have been made for the movement of vehicles.
The local people have demanded from the government to open the road embankments and scissors from Nariga Bridge to Jaghed and to install crash barriers.
Assistant Engineer PWD Junga Devesh Thakur said that an estimate of Rs. 30 lakhs has been prepared and sent for installing crash barriers in the risky section from Nariga Bridge to Jaghed. Crash barriers will be installed in Dhaak and Kainchi when funds are provided.
